A young sport that now counts a lot of enthusiasts
Snowboarders continue to grow in number and if, until a few years ago, they were a minority in the sporting panorama on the slopes, now the situation has changed radically. Not only are all slopes open to snowboarders (many slopes were forbidden to this sport until a few years ago), but a few specific areas have been created for this sport: the so-called snow parks (for example, the snow park on Belvedere at Canazei). What is more, downhill ski instructors are being joined by an increasing number of specialist instructors in this sport.
Snowboarding competitions take place every year in the Val di Fassa. These include the Classic Snowboard, which is organised by the Gazzetta dello Sport (a daily sports paper), and which stops off at the Ski Stadium of Pozza di Fassa every year.
Usually the competitions take place over two days and include different disciplines. The jumps, which are held at night, thanks to the floodlighting in the Ski Stadium are spectacular.
