The hotels in the Val di Fassa – together with the hotels of Trentino and Alto Adige – are among the best in Italy, without wishing to seem conceited or diminish other facilities in any way. At the start of the last century, the economy in our valley was still based on an extremely poor agriculture and on emigration. The few people who were able to allow themselves a holiday in that period were often enthusiasts and scholars studying the Dolomites who would stay in the few existing structures of the time. The boom in tourism took place in the 1960s and 70s at the same time as the economic boom in Italy. The main tourist seasons are summer and winter – excursions and skiing. However, in the last few years, people who are increasingly seeking peace and quiet, come to discover spring in the mountains, with its explosion of scents and flowers, or the thousands of colours of our mild autumns.

Returning to the subject of hotels: their rating is given by the number of stars they have. A hotel with more stars has a higher rating, meaning it offers more services and facilities, such as a wellness centre for example. As well as at the classical hotel in the Val di Fassa, it is also possible to stay in garnìs: structures that are similar to hotels but which do not offer full board, just bed and breakfast.
