in the Val di Fassa and Trentino
Savour a dish of canederli
in a Ladin stua (typical alpine-style living room)
or taste some polenta with mushrooms in a refuge:
the choice is yours
When visiting a new
region, you should never miss out on the chance
to sample
its typical flavours and traditional dishes. The
Val di Fassa and more specifically, Trentino also
offer the typical local specialities. Just like
any other mountain area, the Val di Fassa does not
grow much produce, in view of the climate –
short cool summers and long winters. We must stress
that the cuisine of the Val di Fassa descends from
that of the Tyrol, which has strongly influenced
it in view of well-known historical events. That
is why we have canederli, speck, mushrooms, venison,
spinach ravioli, and lucaniche (local sausages).
There are many other products to be found here in
the Val di Fassa which are also present in other
mountain valleys of Trentino, Alto Adige or the
Austrian Tyrol.
You can sample local dishes in the
many restaurants, alpine and other refuges, taverns
and of course, in the hotel where you are staying.
For reasons already mentioned, the
Val di Fassa does not offer the vast choice
of produce that you will find in other areas in
Trentino. The extraordinary layout of the Val d'Adige
and for the most part, of this province means that
it is possible to grow a variety of extremely different
produce: from the olives of Lake Garda, to the exquisite
apples of the Val di Non, and the famous vines of
the Val d'Adige. Wines are of great importance in
Trentino and have become famous thanks to the unique
fragrance and flavour that only our soil and the
loving care of wine-growers can offer.
So, when you come on holiday to the
Val di Fassa, you must be sure not to miss out on
its tasty gastronomic souvenirs.
