| The
Ladin Museum of Vigo di Fassa
The history, culture
and art of the Val di Fassa's Ladin community
For two years now,
the Fassa Ladin Museum, founded in 1979, has been
located in a new modern building a few metres from
the Ladin Cultural Institute.
As well as its central site, the museum includes
a series of local sections in different towns in
the valley. The sections of Pera ("Molin de
Pèzol" - watermill), Penia ("Segheria
veneziana" - Venetian sawmill) and Moena ("Bottega
del bottaio" - cooper workshop) have been open
since the 1980s, while other sections, which are
dedicated to weaving, painting and decorative arts,
the Great War and the History of Mountaineering
are currently being planned.
Visitors to the Vigo di Fassa Museum
can explore the different aspects of Ladin civilisation,
from the pre-historic period to manufacturing activities,
institutional organisations to civil and religious
ceremonies, beliefs and popular traditions. The
Museum also offers an overview of historic events
until the period of transformation that is marked
by the advent of mountaineering and tourism.
