The nearest railway stations are in Trento and Bolzano

Trento or Bolzano by train and then the Val di Fassa by bus

An Italian trainThe train has always been one of the most important means of transport in our history and is part of our culture. The Val di Fassa does not have its own direct railway line and when travelling by train it is necessary to stop at either Trento or Bolzano and to proceed by bus.

There is also a railway station in Ora, which is nearer to our valley, but not all trains stop there and in any case, there is no direct bus for the Val di Fassa from Ora.

Perhaps not everyone knows this, but right back in 1916, work was begun to build the Val di Fiemme Trenino (small train). The railway line was to depart from Ora and arrive in Predazzo, in the Val di Fiemme. During 1917, the section Ora-Cavalese was laid and finally, on 1 February 1918, the small train was ready to reach Predazzo. To get to Predazzo the train had to travel 50.5 km through 217 level crossings, 7 viaducts, 7 stops, 9 crossroad stations, 8 bridges and various tunnels. The Val di Fiemme Electric Railway took over management of the line from the state railway in 1928 and immediately began works to transform the gauge as well as to supply the line with 2600 V of DC power. The service resumed on a regular basis at the end of October 1929. The historical train of Val di FiemmeAfter years of honourable service, the line was closed to traffic on 10 January 1963 and any re-usable material was sold, for the most part, to the Genoa-Casella line, where it is still in service. The Val di Fiemme train is greatly missed by those who saw it in operation and who perhaps used it many times as well as by those who can only imagine it and hope that one day, someone will think of bringing it back into service, even though it will never be the same as before.

We recommend that you check the Trenitalia (national railway) timetables, taking into account connections with the buses from the Atesina line from Trento or SAD line from Bolzano and Ora. Both bus stations are near to the city railway stations.
