Egna to Moena
From the Brennero Motorway
to Moena in 45 minutes
The
most important, smooth-flowing road is the SS (state
road) 48. After exiting the Brennero motorway (A22)
at Egna - Ora, you will come to the SS 48 in just
a short time. Continue through the Val di Fiemme
until you reach the first town in the Val di Fassa:
Moena. (Ora-Moena: 45 km).
The route is simple, since there
are no difficult passes and the road is only steep
in the first section, from Egna to Cavalese. Immediately
after exiting the motorway at Egna/Ora, follow the
signs to Cavalese, passing an Alto Adige town (Villa)
and continuing up to Cavalese. The first section
runs alongside a mountain and the views are immediately
breathtaking, especially because it is possible
to gaze out over the large plain of the Val d'Adige
from this altitude and to see the city of Bolzano
in the distance (be careful! Don't forget to keep
your eyes on the road). After this first section,
the road, which continues uphill, enters a wood.
After around 20 km from the motorway, there is a
fork just before you come to Cavalese; it is important
to take the tunnel leading to the road at the bottom
of the valley; this is a fast-flowing state road
that avoids crossing all of the towns and villages
in the Val di Fiemme.
Ten
minutes or so are all it takes to cross the entire
Val di Fiemme and arrive in the vicinity of Predazzo.
Just a little way past the longest tunnel (more
than 1.5 km), you will come to a roundabout that
allows you to bypass the centre of Predazzo, thanks
to the new bypass. Once past the ski jump hills
of Predazzo you are now close to your destination.
After just a few kilometres you will come to the
first town in the Val di Fassa: Moena. At times
it is an arduous task to cross the centre of Moena
at the height
of the tourist season, therefore, we always recommend
that, if at all possible, you do not set out when
everybody else is doing so. In any case, a bypass
is currently being built at Moena and in a few years'
time, this will represent another important element
in improving the road network in the Val di Fassa.
